A historical novel of the late 20th century
My mum always used to say you were getting old when the policeman were younger than you. This book made me feel aged - the characters in Faulks' new novel, while older than me, don't beat my age by much.

The book is set in England from the early 1970s, when the character is at school, to the present day. It is very well crafted - the narrative cleverly uses cues to establish a sense of place (or not - maybe it only works if you were there at that time). The book uses techniques such non-linear narrative without being "difficult" or hard to follow.

Highly recommended. - onlineRich , posted 05/24/07
